New Jersey residents may face credit card surcharges

NEW JERSEY (WABC) -- New Jersey residents may have to pay more to make purchases with credit cards.

Starting Sunday, stores in New Jersey can begin passing along the fees they pay to credit card companies to customers.

Shoppers don't always think about it, but there's a surcharge on each credit card transaction.

It's usually about 2 percent, but can be as high as 4 percent.

New York and Connecticut ban these surcharges.

Debit cards are not affected.

Neither are American Express transactions.
