1 suspect hurt, 2 on the loose after police shooting

NEWARK (WABC) -- A late-night gunfight in Newark pitted a police officer against three armed men.

The shooting erupted just after 10 p.m. Thursday on Shephard Avenue.

Authorities say the officer came out of the exchange unscathed, but he managed to shoot one of the alleged gunmen in the shoulder.

That man is now under arrest and being treated at University Hospital.

The other two suspects escaped, and police are still looking for them.
