On Long Island, officials in Suffolk County are following the lead of neighboring Nassau County in a sweeping investigation of how tens of millions of dollars were spent on the recovery effort after Superstorm Sandy.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota has sent out subpoenas to the towns of Brookhaven, Islip and Babylon.

The investigation could spread to Huntington and Smithtown.

Recovery projects for both counties totaled more than $247 million.
