7 Things to Know

Fifty years of James Bond movies will be celebrated at the Oscars on Sunday, including a first-time Oscars performance by Shirley Bassey. She recorded three Bond theme songs (Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever, Goldfinger).

For those looking for a little trivia, here are 7 Things To Know about James Bond.

1) Ian Fleming is the original author of James Bond novels, starting with "Casino Royale." He wrote 12 novels and two short story collections before his death in 1964. Others have picked up the series since then, and the next novel is due out this fall. The New Mission is written by newcomer William Boyd, who is the 8th author to pen a James Bond book.

2) Skyfall is only the second film in which James Bond suffers a gunshot wound. This first was Thunderball.

3) All the scenes which showed Roger Moore running in his 7 Bond movies were performed by doubles. Moore felt he looked awkward when running.

4) Actors in the running to play James Bond over the years included David Niven, Christopher Lee, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, Gerard Butler, Will Smith and Tom Jones!

5) The Walther PPK is considered the most popular James Bond gun because he has used it the most. Originally, Bond used a Beretta.

6) James Bond may drive a lot of fancy cars, but he once drove a Ford? In Diamonds Are Forever 007 drove a 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

7) Part of Skyfall was shot in Shanghai, making it the first Bond movie to have filmed in China. The producers of Licence to Kill wanted to film in China, but when the Chinese Government made a number restrictive demands including the right to veto the script.
